Jane's Addiction rock group
To many, Jane's Addiction epitomized the alternative rock scene that developed during the mid-1980s. Merging elements of punk and metal among other styles, the band's first release, Nothing's Shocking (1988), yielded the minor hit “Jane Says,” but their follow-up album, Ritual de lo Habitual (1990), proved to be the band's real commercial breakthrough and produced the band's biggest hit, “Been Caught Stealin'.” Jane's front man, Perry Farrell also developed the summer festival concert format that has become so popular recently. Created in 1991 and named Lollapalooza, it proved wildly successful, but marked the final performances of Jane's Addiction, which split after the tour. The band—minus Avery, who was replaced by Flea of the Red Hot Chili Peppers—reformed in 1997 for an album and concert tour.
