Pactolus

Pactolus (păktō'lus) [key], small river of ancient Lydia, W central Asia Minor (now Turkey), joining the Hermus (modern Gediz) after passing Sardis. It was famous for the gold washed from its sands, a source of wealth to the kings of Lydia.
