Llangollen

Llangollen (hlän-gôhl'en, lăn-gôth'lin) [key], town (1991 pop. 3,058), Denbighshire, NE Wales, at the head of the Vale of Llangollen on the Dee River. It is a resort for anglers and tourists interested in the antiquities in the vicinity, which include the castle Dinas Bran (13th cent.), Eliseg's Pillar (a shaft of a cross dating probably from the 9th cent.), and Valle Crucis Abbey (1200). The Church of St. Collen (partly Norman) and a 14th-century bridge are also noteworthy. The International Musical Eisteddfod has been held at Llangollen since 1946.
