Irazú

Irazú (ēräsOO') [key], active volcano, c.11,260 ft (3,430 m) high, central Costa Rica. It erupted in 1723, destroying Cartago, and in 1963, covering San José with ash. Vapor constantly rises from one of its craters. From the summit can be seen the Pacific Ocean, the Caribbean Sea, and Lake Nicaragua.
