EncyclopediaTraviès de Villers, Charles JosephTraviès de Villers, Charles Joseph (shärl zhôzef' trävyes' du vēler') [key], 1804–59, French caricaturist and painter, b. Switzerland. He founded and was a prolific contributor to the popular journal Charivari (1831) and drew for Caricature (1838). His witty burlesques of Parisian life were very popular.
