Santa María, Domingo (dōmēng'gō sän'tä märē'ä) [key], 182589, Chilean historian and statesman, president of Chile (1881–86). A liberal statesman, scholar, and author of several historical works, he took part in revolutions against the conservative regime of Manuel Montt and was twice exiled (1852–53, 1859–60).
