Krusenstjerna, Agnes von

Krusenstjerna, Agnes von (äng'nās vôn krOOsensher'nä) [key], 18941940, Swedish novelist. Krusenstjerna's works reflect the aristocratic and emotionally disturbed background from which she came. She frequently portrayed the degeneracy of the society from which she separated herself. Her works include the controversial novel cycles Tonyböckerna [the Tony books] (1922–26) and Fröknarna von Pahlen [the Misses von Pahlen] (1930–35). In these novels she presented for the first time in Swedish literature a candid picture of sexual problems. Her works are outstanding for the skill and psychological acuity of her writing.
