EncyclopediaJehoramJehoram (jēhō'rum) [key]or Joram (jō'rum) [key], in the Bible. 1. Son of Ahab, king of Israel (c.852–841 B.C.), brother and successor of Ahaziah 1. He enlisted the support of Jehoshaphat of Judah to put down a revolt in Moab. Jehoram was wounded in an attack on Ramoth-gilead and retired to Jezreel. Jehu, whom Elisha had earlier anointed king of Israel, assassinated Jehoram and usurped the throne, ending the house of Ahab in Israel. 2. King of Judah (c.848–841 B.C.), son and successor of Jehoshaphat. His wife was the notorious Athaliah 1. The Bible says that he followed her family in the worship of Baal.
