Darboux, Jean Gaston

Darboux, Jean Gaston (zhäN gästôN' därbOO') [key], 18421917, French mathematician. He is known for his work on orthogonal surfaces and for his application of infinitesimal calculus to geometry. From 1880 until his death he held the chair of higher geometry at the Sorbonne and from 1900 was perpetual secretary of the Academy of Sciences.
