Place Of Birth:

Best Known As:
Top-selling country star who did "Fool Hearted Memory"
George Strait shot to the top of the country charts with his debut album Strait Country (1981), and he's been there ever since, ranking with Elvis, The Beatles and Barbra Streisand as one of the most successful performers in popular music. Strait's more traditional approach to country music has earned comparisons to Bob Wills, Hank Williams and Merle Haggard, and is frequently held up as an antidote to more slick, pop-oriented country music. Strait has had more than 40 number one hits in his career, received numerous country awards and has sold more albums than any country artist. His hit songs include "Unwound" (1981), "All My Exes Live in Texas" (1987), "Lovesick Blues" (1992), "It Just Comes Natural" (2007) and "River of Love" (2009). His recent albums include Honkytonk Ville (2003), Somewhere Down in Texas (2005), Troubadour (2008) and Twang (2009).
Extra Credit:

Strait was celebrated in 2010 for 30 years of top Billboard hits, his total being 82 songs in the top ten.
