THURMAN, Karen L., a
Representative from Florida; born in Rapid City, Pennington County,
S.Dak., January 12, 1951; A.A., Santa Fe Community College, Starke,
Fla., 1970; B.A., University of Florida, Gainesville, Fla., 1973;
member of the Dunnellon, Fla., city council, 1974-1982; mayor of
Dunnellon, Fla., 1979-1981; member of the Florida state senate,
1983-1993; elected as a Democrat to the One Hundred Third and to
the four succeeding Congresses (January 3, 1993-January 3, 2003);
unsuccessful candidate for reelection to the One Hundred Eighth
Congress in 2002.
