1957; United States Navy, 1957-1959; United States Naval Reserve,
1959-1963; businessman; delegate, Republican National Convention,
1976, 1980; elected as a Republican to the Ninety-eighth and to the
five succeeding Congresses (January 3, 1983-January 3, 1995);
Governor of Tennessee, 1995-2002.
