SHULTZ, Emanuel, a
Representative from Ohio; born in Stouchsburg, Berks County, Pa.,
July 25, 1819; attended the public schools; apprenticed to the
trade of shoemaker; moved to Miamisburg, Montgomery County, Ohio,
in 1838; engaged in mercantile pursuits, banking, and the
manufacture of paper; member of the State constitutional convention
in 1873; member of the State house of representatives 1875-1877;
elected as a Republican to the Forty-seventh Congress (March 4,
1881-March 3, 1883); unsuccessful candidate for renomination in
1882; again engaged in paper making; appointed postmaster of
Miamisburg and served from August 2, 1889, to January 17, 1894;
died in Miamisburg, Ohio, November 5, 1912; interment in Hill Grove
Cemetery.
