MIDDLETON, George, a
Representative from New Jersey; born in Philadelphia, Pa., October
14, 1800; moved to Burlington, N.J.; attended the public schools;
became a tanner; moved to Allentown, Monmouth County, N.J.; held
several local offices; member of the State general assembly in 1858
and 1859; elected as a Democrat to the Thirty-eighth Congress
(March 4, 1863-March 3, 1865); unsuccessful candidate for
reelection in 1864 to the Thirty-ninth Congress; resumed the
business of tanning; died in Allentown, N.J., December 31, 1888;
interment in Crosswicks Community Cemetery, Crosswicks, Burlington
County, N.J.
