McCARTHY, Karen, a
Representative from Missouri; born in Haverhill, Essex County,
Mass., March 18, 1947; graduated from Shawnee Mission East High
School, Shawnee Mission, Kans., 1965; B.A., University of Kansas,
Lawrence, Kans., 1969; M.A., University of Missouri, Kansas City,
Mo., 1976; John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard
University, Cambridge, Mass., 1982; M.B.A., University of Kansas,
Lawrence, Kans., 1986; teacher; member of the Missouri state house
of representatives, 1977-1995; elected as a Democrat to the One
Hundred Fourth and to the four succeeding Congresses (January 3,
1995- January 3, 2005); not a candidate for reelection to the One
Hundred Ninth Congress in 2004; died on October 5, 2010, in
Overland Park, Kans.
