LeFANTE, Joseph Anthony, a
Representative from New Jersey; born in Bayonne, Hudson County,
N.J., September 8, 1928; graduated from Bayonne High School,
Bayonne, N.J.; attended St. Peter’s Institute of Industrial
Relations, 1953-1955; Real Estate Institute of New Jersey, 1957;
New Jersey National Guard, 1947-1952; business owner; member of the
Bayonne, N.J., city council, 1962-1970; member of the Bayonne,
N.J., board of school estimate, 1964-1967; member of the New Jersey
state general assembly, 1969-1976; delegate to the New Jersey state
Democratic convention, 1975; delegate to the Democratic National
Convention, 1975; elected as a Democrat to the Ninety-fifth
Congress, serving until his resignation December 14, 1978 (January
3, 1977-December 14, 1978); unsuccessful candidate for nomination
to the United States Senate in 1982; died on February 26, 1997, in
Manhattan, N.Y.; interment in Rose Hill Cemetery, Linden, N.Y.
