GAGE, Joshua, a
Representative from Massachusetts; born in Harwich, Mass., on
August 7, 1763; completed preparatory studies; in 1795 moved to
Augusta, Maine (until 1820 a district of Massachusetts); was a
master mariner, and subsequently became engaged in mercantile
pursuits; member of the Massachusetts house of representatives in
1805 and 1807; served in the State senate in 1813 and 1815;
treasurer of Kennebec County, Maine, 1810-1831; elected as a
Republican to the Fifteenth Congress (March 4, 1817-March 3, 1819);
member of the Maine executive council in 1822 and 1823; died in
Augusta, Maine, January 24, 1831; interment in Augusta, Maine.
