DOWSE, Edward, a
Representative from Massachusetts; born in Charlestown, Mass.,
October 22, 1756; moved to Dedham, Mass.; after the Revolution was
a shipmaster and engaged in the East Indian and China carrying
trade; elected as a Republican to the Sixteenth Congress and served
from March 4, 1819, until May 26, 1820, when he resigned; died in
Dedham, Mass., September 3, 1828; interment in the Old
Cemetery.
