Playwright and novelist whose books were worldwide bestsellers translated into 51 languages. The steamy page-turners included The Other Side of Midnight and Are You Afraid of the Dark? He won the 1947 Best Screenplay Oscar for The Bachelor and the Bobby-Soxer, shared the 1959 Tony for Best Musical for Redhead, and created the television series I Dream of Jeannie and Hart to Hart.
