Henry (Smokey) Yunick

Age: 77

pioneer stock-car mechanic who worked for years out of the self-proclaimed "Best Damn Garage in Town" in Daytona Beach, Fla.; helped develop Chevrolet's original small-block engine; his cars won series titles in 1951 and 1953 and four of the first eight major stock car races run at Daytona, starting in 1959; inducted into International Motorsports Hall of Fame in 1990. He died of leukemia.
