The Question:

Where can I found out how many colleges and universities there are in each state?

The Answer:

According to Digest of Education Statistics, there were 4,216 degree-granting institutions in the United States during the 2004–05 school year.

California was home to 399, more than any other U.S. state. In second was New York (307), followed by Pennsylvania (260), Texas (208) and Ohio (194).

We have a complete listing of Accredited U.S. and Canadian Colleges and Universities, sorted by state, territory, and province.
