Stone Temple Pilots Biography

Stone Temple Pilots

rock band

Vocalist Scott Weiland and bass player Robert DeLeo met at a concert in 1988 and recruited guitarist Dean DeLeo and drummer Eric Kretz to form Stone Temple Pilots in San Diego that year. Their first album Core was released in 1992, and their sophomore effort Purple (1994) entered the Billboard charts in the number one position. Weiland then developed substance-abuse problems, and after the group released Tiny Music . . . Songs from the Vatican Gift Shop (1996), the three other members formed a new band, Talk Show. The group reunited in 1999 and recorded No. 4.
