Tell us about your work---what do you do? I am a paralegal in domestic relations What skills are needed? Writing , analyzing , organizing , listening and communicating . What was your major? English then Communications . How did you get started in your career? Worked my way up from Legal Receptionist . What experience do you need in this job? Knowledge of court procedures; knowledge of legal writing and research ; knowledge of human behaviors and being able to multi-task. Describe your "typical" workday: Talking on the phone to clients or opposing counsel while drafting legal motions; research legal issues; negotiate settlements ; communicate with clients and opposing counsel; meet with attornies to update the case status; prepare exhibits; prepare discovery requests and discovery responses; prepare for court. What is the hardest aspect of your job? Dealing with the emotions of many clients at the same time. What is the most rewarding aspect of your job? Getting cards from children and appreciative parents. What are your suggestions for someone considering this field? Be prepared to spend long hours in the office; be prepared to give up some personal time to accommodate clients. Remember what seems like a small thing to you may be a big thing to other people.
