ITT Tech Closes All Its Doors

On Sept. 6, 2016, ITT Technical Institute announces the closure of all 130 campuses in 38 states. The for-profit chain blames the United States Education Department for banning ITT Tech from welcoming new students who use federal financial aid. Students had heard rumors that the school was struggling but were assured they would be able to receive their intended diplomas. Because of the shutdown, 35,000 students are without a school, and over 8,000 employees are left without jobs. Community colleges surrounding the ITT Tech campuses are being encouraged by the U.S. Education Department to be flexible with ITT credit transfers.
