- Ethiopia Declares State of Emergency
- On Sunday Oct. 9, 2016, the prime minister of Ethiopia, Hailemariam Desalegn, announces a 6-month state of emergency for the country. For the last few months, the country has been dealing with violent anti-government protests, causing the enough damage to concern the government. A recent protest turned violent, with police officers firing tear gas and rubber bullets at the protesters, resulting in a stampede that killed over 50 Ethiopians. Some sources say that the people of Ethiopia are concerned about how much power this state of emergency will give Prime Minister Desalegn, whom they believe already has too much control.
