- Three-Day Cease-Fire in Yemen
- On Oct. 18, 2016, the UN announces a 72-hour cease-fire between the warring parties in Yemen. The UN special envoy for Yemen, Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed, says he hopes the cease-fire will lead to a "permanent and lasting end to the conflict." The cease-fire is set to start just before midnight on Oct. 19, 2016 and continue for three days. The agreement will allow unhindered access for humanitarian personnel and medical supplies. U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry participates in the talks and reiterates the goal that all sides of the cease-fire must make compromises and be committed.
