- U.S. Employs Missile Strikes in Yemen After Houthis Target U.S. Navy Ship
- On Oct. 13, 2016, U.S. navy ships fire Tomahawk cruise missiles at rebel-controlled sites in Yemen. The initial assessment of the damage indicates that the three Houthi sites are completely destroyed. The missile strikes are in response to the targeting of a U.S. ship earlier this week in international waters by Houthis. Press secretary for the Pentagon, Peter Cook, says, "These limited self-defense strikes were conducted to protect our personnel, our ships, and our freedom of navigation in this important maritime passageway."
