- Russian Economy Minister Alexey Ulyukaev Arrested
- On November 15, 2016, Alexey Ulyukaev is arrested in the middle of the night. Ulyukaev, the Russian economy minister, is the highest ranking government official to be arrested in recent times. Ulyukaev is accused of trying to extort a bribe of $2 million from the state oil company Rosneft in exchange for approving the company's purchase of the government-controlled share of Bashneft, another oil company. Ulyukaev pleads not guilty to the charges. While Ulyukaev's arrest shocks the people of Russia, the secret police, FSB, reveals that they have been watching Ulyukaev for over a year.
