On November 16, 2016, Officer Jeronimo Yanez is charged with second degree manslaughter in the shooting death of Philando Castile, a young black man, back in July. The shooting in St. Paul, Minnesota was recorded by Castile’s girlfriend and streamed live on social media, sparking outrage and protests. Castile was stopped for a broken taillight when the incident turned violent. An attorney for the case states, “No reasonable officer—knowing, seeing and hearing what Officer Yanez did at the time—would have used deadly force under these circumstances.”
