- Gorilla Is Shot at Cincinnati Zoo to Protect Boy
- A 17-year-old, male gorilla named Harambe is shot and killed after a three-year-old child climbs into an enclosure at the Cincinnati Zoo on May 28, 2016. The boy is inside the exhibit for about 10 minutes, and witnesses watch as the the gorilla drags the boy around. Keepers determine the child is in grave danger and act with deadly force to protect him, killing the endangered silverback gorilla. The child is immediately brought to the hospital for injuries sustained, but is fine.
