- On June 23, 2016, Ben Simmons is the 2016 NBA Draft's 1st pick. The Philadelphia 76ers picks the Australian basketball player after only three minutes of debate, choosing him over 2nd pick, Brandon Ingram and 3rd pick, Jaylen Brown. Simmons, who is the second 1st pick to come from Louisiana State University says to ESPN, "I'm happy to be part of the family now." Famous basketball player Shaquille O'Neal is the other 1st pick from LSU.
