- Aleppo in Government Hands
- On Dec. 13, 2016, the Syrian government under President Assad takes back the city of Aleppo from the rebel groups, which have held the city for the past four years. This is the fifth major city the regime has gained control over, and marks a turning point in the war. The government dropped bombs throughout the rebel-held area, killing both rebels and civilians. According to some sources, the government is hunting down anyone with ties to the rebels and executing them. Many United Nations spokespeople from various countries, including France, the U.S. and the U.K, are voicing concern regarding Syria and the violence in Aleppo. As of Dec. 13, a fragile ceasefire agreement is in effect, and evacuations are being planned for citizens.
