- UN Admits Role in Haiti's Cholera Epidemic
- On August 19, the United Nations (UN) announces they are going to financially assist those affected by the cholera epidemic in Haiti. More than 800,000 people are infected with cholera and the U.N. is strengthening it's efforts to combat suffering. The disease was introduced into the country by U.N. peacekeepers who travelled from Nepal, where cholera is endemic. Before Friday, the U.N. had not accepted responsibility for its role in the spread of the disease.
