On August 8, 2016, a suicide bomber strikes a hospital in the southwestern city of Quetta, Pakistan killing 74 people. A splinter group of the Pakistani Taliban, Jamaat-ul-Ahrar, claims responsibility for the attack stating, "Our attacks will continue till the imposition of the Islamic system in the country." A regional branch of ISIS also claims responsibility. Violence has been common in this province, but until now, ISIS has not claimed responsibility.
