On August 13, 2016, a police officer fatally shoots a fleeing man armed with a semiautomatic handgun. Protests and violence ensue in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Protesters set fires and throw objects at patrol cars—sending one police officer with a head injury. Governor Scott Walker activates the Wisconsin National Guard to help law enforcement handle the protesters. The next day, a city-wide curfew helps diffuse further violence.
