    On this date in 1903, what became known as the Heppner Disaster occurred in Oregon. A cloudburst sent a flash flood down Willow Creek, and a 20-foot wall of water swept away part of the town of Heppner in a matter of minutes. The flood killed 247 residents and caused $100 million in damages.
