    On this date in 1952, an intense storm hit Cape Cod with high winds and heavy snow. Thousands of motorists were stranded on the lower Cape when the only roads off the Cape became impassable due to the weather. On nearby Nantucket Island high winds blew over the 120-foot-high Loran tower.
