This year sees sees some notable changes from the competition in 2018, and some things that remain the same. Russia's ban from international sports is still in effect, with Russian athletes now competing under the Russian Olympic Community. 6 countries not represented in 2018 will compete this year, including two newcomers. These are Haiti and Suadi Arabia. The Unified Korea team will not be appearing, not least due to North Korea's absence; they were barred from competing after their boycott of Tokyo over diplomatic disputes. 6 other nations will not be returning.
