Herman KNICKERBOCKER, Congress, NY (1779-1855)

KNICKERBOCKER Herman , a Representative from New York; born in Albany, N.Y., July 27, 1779; completed preparatory studies; studied law; was admitted to the bar in 1803 and commenced practice in Albany, N.Y.; moved to Schaghticoke, near Albany, and became known as ``the Prince of Schaghticoke'' on account of his hospitality and liberality; elected as a Federalist to the Eleventh Congress (March 4, 1809-March 3, 1811); was not a candidate for reelection in 1810; served in the State assembly in 1816; judge of Rensselaer County; died in Williamsburg (now a part of New York City), N.Y., January 30, 1855; interment in the Knickerbocker family cemetery, Schaghticoke, Rensselaer County, N.Y.
