Elijah BRIGHAM, Congress, MA (1751-1816)

BRIGHAM Elijah , a Representative from Massachusetts; born in Westboro (now Northboro), Mass., July 7, 1751; was graduated from Dartmouth College, Hanover, N.H., in 1778; studied law, but did not practice; engaged in mercantile pursuits at Westboro; member of the State house of representatives 1791-1793; justice of the court of common pleas 1795-1811; served in the State senate in 1796, 1798, 1801-1805, and 1807-1810; State councilor in 1799, 1800, and 1806; elected as a Federalist to the Twelfth, Thirteenth, and Fourteenth Congresses and served from March 4, 1811, until his death in Washington, D.C., February 22, 1816; interment in the Congressional Cemetery.
