lifelong member of the New York Rangers' family, serving as a player, coach and general manager; son of Hall of Famer Lester Patrick, Muzz's brother Lynn was also a player and coach, as were his nephews Craig and Glenn; took over for Rangers coach Frank Boucher in 1954 and moved up to general manager after the season; swung several memorable trades as a GM, but remembered as a player for his one-swing victory in a fight with Boston defenseman Eddie Shore at Madison Square Garden in 1939; he played four seasons as a defenseman for the Rangers, helping them to the Stanley Cup in 1940; worked in a variety of executive positions with the Rangers until his retirement in 1973; of a heart attack
