Divisional Championship—AFC: Pittsburgh (11-5) qualified over Jacksonville (11-5) by having more net points in division games. This is the fifth possible tie-breaker. The teams were still tied after the first four tie-breakers were used.

Wild Card berths—AFC: Miami (9-7) qualified over New York Jets (9-7) by winning both regular-season head-to-head matchups.

Home field priority—NFC: San Francisco (13-3) was awarded home field advantage throughout the playoffs over Green Bay (13-3) because of a better won-loss percentage within the conference.
