Vermont doctor and politician, was elected chairman of the Democratic National Party in February. In 2004, he was an early frontrunner in the crowded field of Democratic presidential hopefuls. He faces the daunting task of uniting a downtrodden party still reeling from the 2004 elections. On a May segment of Meet the Press, Dean lashed out at House majority Tom DeLay, saying he should step down because of ethical lapses. “This gentleman is not an ethical person, and he ought not be leading Congress, period,” Dean said.
