Cindy Sheehan, 2005 News

California mother whose son Casey died in Iraq in 2004, camped out a few miles away from President Bush's ranch in Crawford, Tex., while he was vacationing there in August. She demanded the president meet with her so she could explain to him why she thought U.S. troops should be withdrawn from Iraq. Extensive media coverage and poll numbers indicating waning U.S. support of the war helped to transform her vigil into an energized antiwar protest. Bush refused to meet with Sheehan, but he said in a statement that he shared her pain.
