Eli Pariser and Wes Boyd,
activists, used their advocacy group, MoveOn, to launch a massive online antiwar campaign in January. The group collected more than 700,000 signatures for a petition that urged President Bush to allow the UN weapons inspectors to complete their task before attacking Iraq. MoveOn also organized the protests against the war that drew millions of people worldwide. Boyd and Joan Blades created the group in 1998 in response to the “continuing obsession” of conservatives with the President Clinton and Monica Lewinsky scandal.
