Alex and Derek King,
Florida teens, were convicted in September of second-degree murder in the killing of their father, Terry, who was blugeoned to death by a baseball bat in Nov. 2000. Another man, Ricky Chavis, 40, a former friend of the family, stood trial for the same murder but was acquitted. Chavis was also charged with molesting Alex and being an accessory in the murder. The judge, who heard both trials, threw out the boys' convictions in October, claiming that the prosecution's unusual tactic denied them due process and a fair trial. The judge ordered the two sides to try to work out the case in mediation.
