Gary Graham,

36, convicted killer, was executed in June in Austin, Texas, despite a high-profile, last-ditch effort for clemency. Graham was convicted in 1981, based on the testimony of one eyewitness who was about 40 feet away, of killing a man in a nighttime holdup. His defense lawyer never called two other witnesses who said Graham was innocent, nor did he introduce ballistics evidence that suggested Graham's gun was not the murder weapon.
