Bohn in the Zone

Parker Bohn III won five tournaments on the PBA Tour in 1999 and capped it all off with his first PBA Player of the Year Award.

With his five wins, Bohn moved into a sixth-place tie on the career list with 22, and is one of only 12 bowlers to reach the 20-win plateau. He captured his unprecedented third straight Japan Cup title in September, led almost all of the tour's statistical categories and finished the year #1 in the computer rankings.

Paul Fleming took home rookie of the year honors. The 31-year-old righthander led all rookies in cashes, average and earnings.

Other highlights in the PBA Tour: In February Steve Jaros rolled only the 13th perfect game ever televised. Ironically, a technical glitch kept most people from seeing it. And the PBA took its competition outdoors in May, holding the first NYC PBA Experience in New York's Bryant Park.

It's no surprise Dale Eagle was named Senior Tour player of the year. He had one of the most successful years in tour history. Eagle matched the record of four victories in a season, set last year by Pete Couture, and finished second in average and earnings.

Wendy Macpherson quietly and consistently earned her third PWBA Player of the Year Award in 1999. Eleven times she finished in the top 10 on the PWBA Tour this season and won twice. She ranked first in earnings and average and led all women bowlers with nine appearances in the televised finals.

PWBA Hall of Famer Aleta Sill became the first woman to surpass $1 million in career earnings in September. And in December the PWBA announced that espn2 would broadcast all 24 events in 2000. It's the most vigorous television package for women's bowling ever.
