The Full Monty inspired a plethora of British films about idiosyncratic characters in struggling Northern towns. Scriptwriter Simon Beaufoy also penned Blow Dry. Not much has changed, so this time around the material seems like a rehash. Swap male stripping for hair styling and you have Blow Dry's breezy feel.

A washed-up hairdresser (Alan Rickman) confronts his famous past when the National British Hairdressing Competition comes to town. His divorced wife struggles to tell her girlfriend that she's got terminal cancer. She must team up with her ex-husband to snatch the competition away from the hairdresser's old nemesis, whose American daughter is taking a fancy to his son. Big haired camp with little impact.
