A contrived, plodding melodrama that fails to inspire. Junior-high outcasts, Max (Henson), a hulking, dim-witted boy, and Kevin (Culkin), a diminutive, whip-smart, effusive boy trapped in leg braces, form a symbiotic friendship that helps them overcome their obstacles together. Sharon Stone doesn't show any skin in her wholesome role at Kevin's noble mother. It's the scene-stealing Gillian Anderson who plays the floozy.
